Being on a gluten free or wheat free diet is not easy,
especially when you are eating out in restaurants or
round friends or relatives who don’t know what
you can and can’t eat.
However whilst at home, and as long as you have some
basic ingredients, it is fairly easy to adapt most recipes
to make them gluten and wheat free.
Please find below a list of gluten and wheat free items
that are useful to have in stock:
Kallo, Just Bouillon- stock cubes
available in a variety of flavours to make gravies and
sauces
Cornflour to thicken sauces and gravies
Crosse & Blackwell Browning- gravy
browning that can be used to add colour to gravies as
the stock cubes listed above tend to make an insipid
looking gravy
Doves, gluten free/wheat free plain
white flour- it can replace wheat flour in all recipes
except those for conventional yeast cookery
Super Cook, baking powder- can be
added to the above flour to make self raising flour
Rice wine vinegar- as malt vinegar is not suitable for
a gluten free diet
Meridian Foods, Tamari soya sauce-
can be used in sauces and oriental dishes
Discovery, gluten free corn tortillas-
useful for enchiladas, fajitas and wraps
Selection of wheat free/gluten free pasta such as spaghetti,
lasagne, conchiglie, farfalle, fusilli
Sharwood’s, rice noodles- can
be used in soups and served with oriental dishes in
place of egg noodles which contain both wheat and gluten
Trufree, pizza bases
Trufree, herb and onion crackers
